Running: Race Inspiration

With the New York City marathon just two days away, I thought it would be appropriate to compile some of my favorite motivational quotes that inspired my training journey. Running is very mental for me and feel that if you’re excited and start the race on a positive note, this mindset will last until the finish line. I also try to start a race with a quote and keep repeating it when the race gets difficult. See a list of my favorites below:

“Being challenged in life is inevitable, being defeated is optional.” – Roger Crawford

“Our running shoes have magic in them – the power to transform a bad day into a good day; frustration into speed; self-doubt into confidence; chocolate cake into muscle.” – Mina Samuel

“Happy people plan actions, they don’t plan results.” – Dennis Waitley

“If it doesn’t challenge you, it doesn’t change you.” – Fred DeVito

“Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out.” – Robert Collier

“Miles ahead, problems behind.” – Nike NYC

“Strength does not come from what you can do, it comes from overcoming the things you once thought you couldn’t.”

“Believing will cost you nothing, to not will cost you everything”

“Physical strength will get you to the start line but mental strength will get you to the finish line.”

I was running the Chicago Rock n Roll Half Marathon and was becoming tired towards the end of the race, when I saw this lady holding up a sign that said, “One of these days you will not be able to do this. Today, isn’t that day.” Every time I am getting tired during a race or facing any other challenge, I always think of the words on that sign.

Wow! What an awesome quote I’ll have to add that to my list. It’s such a great reminder to be thankful for our health and every opportunity we have!
